This is an argumentative essay. We began learning about the single-story and how so many of the single stories are still being passed down, and how the lies are being told across history because of a biased teller. The goal of this assignment was to pick a topic that has a single story and using the argumentative genre, debunks it. When writing, one thing I really struggled with was the counter-argument, my group was able to help me come up with some arguments that I could include, for example, since I wrote about Columbus a possible counterargument would be if he did not come to America, where would we be today? This project allowed me to explore the element of audience and stance the most, as I had to choose who I really wanted to focus on as my audience and what attitude I want to have towards this topic.
